Daniel Josefsson Sees Rise In Manufacturing Contracts Despite Overall Industry Decline

Due to ongoing economicuncertainty, the global contract electronics manufacturing industryis expected to decline in 2012 according to a report from theinformation and analysis organisation IHS. Total revenue for theindustry in 2011 totalled approximately $360 billion and is expectedto drop to $357 billion in 2012.

According to ThomasDinges, senior principal analyst for EMS (Electronics ManufacturingServices) and ODM (Original Design Manufacturer's) at IHS, “Theparamount factor affecting the contract electronics manufacturingbusiness in 2012 is the sovereign debt crisis in Europe.” He added,“Europe remains a key market for products built all over the globe.If Europe goes into recession because of its financial problems, andthe recession then spreads to the United States – already hobbledby high unemployment and assorted economic travails – there will bevery little that the global CEM industry can do, other than hope thatthe pipeline of new business remains strong and that the priceincreases enacted this past year serve as a buffer to prop up marginssomewhat.”

Despite this predicteddecline in business, at Daniel Joseffson we have never been busier.We are proud to announce that customer manufacturing requirementshave doubled and our turnover has increased by 225% over thelast year. Electronic Manufacturers Guide to Avoiding Counterfeits

The electronics industry today is full of discussion regarding counterfeit electronic components coming out of China. Recently, Senator Carl Levin, said, “We selected about 100 cases to track backwards through the supply chain. So where do the trails ultimately lead? The overwhelming majority, over 70 percent led to China.”

As demand for circuit boards grows in ever more demanding markets and as companies compete for manufacturing contracts, there is more and more pressure to cut costs wherever possible. Procuring electronic components from cheaper sources as a solution is causing many problems in the manufacturing world.

Counterfeit components can be notoriously difficult to detect and their entry into the supply chain is something that the industry has been working on curbing for many years. Recent news stories have criticized certain component suppliers in failing to perform adequate checks on their components before they are used in crucial systems such as in military equipment. Higher Production Costs Shift Chinese Manufacturing

I have recently found a really interesting article regarding export prices in China which may increase as Chinese manufacturers are faced with higher wages, an increase in cost for raw materials and an appreciating currency...

"Wages are going up. The minimum wage has gone up by about 20 percent in 2010. And again this year wages have gone up by 20 percent roughly. When you look at any part of the world, I think you cannot find any other place with such kind of increase in wages." Says Stanley Lau, Managing Director of Renley Watch Manufacturing Company.
